Sara’s Sewing Plan 2025: Four New Projects in Progress

Hello, Sara here! This video is elaborating my sewing plan 2025. Things like the four recent projects I’m currently working on. I always set my goals a month or two in advance for the upcoming year, and for 2025, my hope is to show more of myself to you and embrace being my authentic self.
For this V-log, I decided to film in Korean since it feels more natural for me. However, I didn’t realize how fast I speak Korean until I filmed this video! So starting with the next video, I’ll make an effort to slow down a bit so you have plenty of time to read the English captions. Please let me know if you have any tips for improving my videos—I’m open to your feedback!

Exciting Projects I’m Working on Right Now:

  1. Blanket Stitch Wool Coat: A more detailed video is coming soon, and I’ll share the sleeve pattern for your faux collar coat hack.
  2. Rustwood Big Collar Faux Collar: I’m adjusting the oversized collar and will share the updated process once it’s complete. I don’t recommend making collars that extend wider than your shoulders, particularly when using heavy fabrics.
  3. New Pattern: I’m working on several new patterns at once, and this one is the one I’m most excited about. I’ll share how it turns out once it’s nearly complete.
  4. Wool Infit Dress: This project started as an idea to create a cozy and warm home dress, and I’m absolutely loving it so far. I’ll share how I finish the bias neck facing and side slits on this dress—finally!

Thank you for following along! I hope you enjoy this project log and are as excited as I am about the upcoming videos.

Make One Of A Kind Patchwork Tie Dress With Me

Hey everyone, Sara here! Welcome back to Sewing Therapy! Today’s video is more of a tip and inspiration session rather than a sew-along. If you want to make your own patchwork tie dress, definitely watch this tip video and then check out my previous Tie Dress sew-along video.

First off, thank you so much for loving my patchwork tie dress. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what I was doing at first, and I was uncertain about the outcome. But what I love about our sewing therapy community is your enthusiasm for my new ideas. You all give me so much confidence, which I sometimes lack.

I want to share some tips with you, especially if you’re feeling unsure. Remember, there are many ways to do things, but I’ll show you my favorite method. Feel free to choose what works best for you from all the options out there.

This was my first patchwork tie dress, and brainstorming the combination took quite a while. The structure is relatively straightforward because the Tie Dress is already cut into panels, like the bodice for the centre and sides, and the sleeves. You can choose the fabrics you like for each part. I used the same fabric for the front and back this one but chose two different fabrics for the centre panels for the second to create two distinct looks.

Thank you for watching and for joining me in creating this patchwork Tie Dress! I hope you have as much fun making it as I did. Remember, gathering all your favorite fabrics together will result in a uniquely your style patchwork. Keep experimenting, stay creative, and most importantly, enjoy the process. This Easy-To-Make Tie Dress Gives You Endless Style Possibilities | Sewing Therapy PDF Pattern

Hello, Sara here, and I’m excited to share my latest pattern with you: The Tie Dress! Inspired by my previous summer’s makes, I’ve finally brought this vision to life, and I’m thrilled to sew along with you.

Let me give you a quick overview of the pattern. The Tie Dress features four ties, allowing for versatile styling options. Whether you prefer a loose fit or a tight one, you can tie the ties at the front, back, or even asymmetrically—it’s entirely up to you! I’ve designed the ties to be a comfortable length, but feel free to adjust them to suit your preferences.

There are two neckline variations to choose from. You can opt for a cute and elegant boat neck or switch to a structured V-neck for a sharp yet comfortable look. And if you prefer a deeper V-neck, go ahead and customize the V to your liking.

The Tie Dress offers two sleeve options: Short Sleeves and Elbow-length Sleeves.

The Short Sleeves feature a unique bottom opening detail, adding a touch of flair. If you prefer slightly less ventilation around the arms, you can easily sew longer side seams to block the opening.

For the Elbow-length Sleeves, I have incorporated an inverted pleat detail. This subtle feature enhances the elegance of your arms, creating a dramatic yet slimming effect.

The Tie Dress comes with pockets! However, I must emphasize that they are entirely optional.

Personally, I lean towards omitting pockets as the construction and versatility of the Tie Dress are such that pockets may disrupt the silhouette.

But I understand the allure of pockets as they’re incredibly handy! So, if you’re determined to have them, fear not, as I have provided instructions for adding inseam pockets as an option. feel free to omit the pockets if you’re hesitant about their impact on the silhouette.

The charm of sewing your own garments lies in the ability to customize your fit to your unique body and style preferences, perfectly.

Okay, now let’s dive into creating your Tie Dress together!

This Beginner-Friendly Infit Top And Dress Will Evolve Into A Fantastic OUTFIT | Sewing Therapy PDF Pattern

Hello, I’m Sara and welcome back to Sewing Therapy. I’m wearing my newest pattern, the INFIT Dress. I invite you to join me and sew your own!

Here’s the general idea about this pattern. I designed this pattern, hoping you to create a successful infit that evolves into a fantastic outfit.

Each file offers layer options for every size. Choose the file that suits your needs best.

INFIT is designed for beginners, featuring no closures for ease of sewing. Its neckline offers a perfect balance, providing easy wear and bra strap coverage.

I created Sleeve Wings to simplify sewing sleeves and allow for contrasting fabric use, adding a unique touch to your INFIT and distinguishing it from other garments.

INFIT includes patch pockets that are simpler to sew than inseam pockets,

INFIT works well with many fabrics, and I recommend trying different types to discover your favorite looks. However, avoid very stiff fabrics to prevent excess bulk in this oversized design.

I have made several versions and love them all. Here are the fabrics I used for my INFIT Dresses.

I’ll stop talking. I hope you find joy in your sewing therapy from now on!

Infit is customizable, so experiment with the bodice and sleeve width and length to suit your style, as each adjustment can alter its vibe. Since oversized garments fit differently on various body shapes, understanding how Infit looks on you is crucial.

My only regret was that, while using a heavy fabric for the bodice, the bias tape turned out to be too light, making it a bit challenging to catch and sew neatly. Despite this, the final result is beautiful and ready for the bias binding. What are your thoughts? Do you think the extra time invested in making it reversible was worthwhile?

Stay tuned for my next video, where I’ll specifically cover bias binding on the Hanbok Vest, focusing on handling curves.

Hanbok Wrap Skirt – Reversible Pleated Skirt | Sewing Therapy PDF Pattern

Hello everyone! The pattern for my Hanbok Wrap Skirt is now available and I’m exciting to guide you through the process of sewing your very own skirt. If you have already purchased the Hanbok Wrap Dress pattern, guess what? You can easily hack it to create the skirt. And for those who prefer skirts over dresses, I have created this Skirt only pattern with you in mind.

The total sewing time for the skirt is just a few hours and you even have the option to make it reversible by using different fabrics for the waistband. I’m eager to see how you’ll pair this versatile skirt with different tops and all the creative outfits you’ll come up with!

In case you missed the news shared on my vlogs, I am collaborating with CBC Life to create a pattern for a Hanbok Vest, called a “Baeja”, which will be available for free! So whether you’re a fan of tops and skirts or just love a good pleated skirt, you’re going to love sewing this pattern. Don’t worry if you’re a beginner as I’ll walk you through each and every step. Let’s get started.

Hanbok Top & Jacket Sew Along Tutorial | Sewing Therapy PDF Pattern

I’m Sara, and I’m thrilled to guide you through the process of creating a Hanbok Jacket today.

First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for your trust and support in purchasing my initial pattern, the Hanbok Wrap Dress.

I’m excited to share that you can hack and sew this jacket using the wrap dress pattern. Additionally, I’ve recently introduced a standalone Jacket pattern. So, if you prefer not to make the dress version, you can also get the pattern separately.

Thanks to its high neckline and sleeves with some ease, this versatile jacket pairs well with virtually any top and is the perfect fall season layer. If it’s jacket season where you are, I recommend that you choose heavier fabrics such as wool, denim, fleece, or tweed.

Let’s get started!

p.s. Oh If you made a few hanbok dress now, watch the fabric cut and you can skip the part from 0 to 3.

Now, many of you might already know that Hanbok is a beautiful Korean traditional garment worn on special occasions. As a Korean sewist living in Canada, I’ve always dreamed of creating a pattern inspired by Hanbok, and now it’s finally here!

I’ve taken inspiration from the elegant neckline, the graceful ties, the timeless sleeves, and the classic silhouette of the Hanbok, infusing it with a modern twist for added comfort and versatility.

In future episodes, I’ll dive deeper into the world of Hanbok and share more about my Hanbok Wrap Dress, but I know you’re eager to start sewing, so I’ll keep this introduction short and sweet.

If you’ve already pre-ordered the pattern, thank you so much for your trust and enthusiasm.

HOW TO SEW A STYLISH PHEN SHIRT – The Ultimate Step-by-Step Sewing Guide

Hello and welcome back to Sewing Therapy. I’m Sara and today I’m sewing a Phen Shirt by Pattern Fantastique. When Nicole from Finchley Designs generously gifted me her self-designed fabric printed from Spoonflower, she also sent me the Phen Shirt pattern – thank you, Nicole! I envision making a really cute and unique Phen Shirt with this khaki-printed modern jersey fabric. But since the gifted fabric is precious to me, I first made a wearable muslin using a green linen fabric to avoid any mistakes in my final version. You’ll be able to see my second Phen Shirt made using this fabric on my social media! Thanks to Nicole, I am able to make this top and I invite you to join me!

Do you recall the Vali Dress video from about a year or so ago? That pattern was also by Pattern Fantastique and I am a huge fan of their designs as they are one-of-a-kind and really well-crafted. Pattern Fantastique describes the Phen shirt as the not-so-classic, classic shirt and I love these dramatic oversized batwing sleeves and the very unique nipped-in high hip hemline. However, it can be challenging to envision how the shirt is made as it is constructed uniquely and they rate the skill level as intermediate/advanced. But I am here to help you and sew along with you!

All three versions give off very different moods with the only difference being the collar styles. It can be unclear as to which collar is which, as there is no identification provided. My guess is that the version with the collar stand only must be Collar Option A and the other is Collar Option C, according to what the pattern pieces are called in the instructions. All three options are charming, and today I will make Option C with you. The process is the same for all options so please choose the style that you like best.

Are you ready for some Sewing Therapy? Let’s get started!

Nikko Top by True Bias | Sew Along Tutorial from Sewing Therapy

Hello and welcome back to Sewing Therapy. I’m Sara and I invite you to sewalong with me. If you’ve been following me on social media, you may have noticed that I have been binge-sewing turtleneck tops. When I reached out to you for suggestions for additional patterns, several of you suggested the Nikko Top by True Bias. So today’s video is to sew a Nikko Top!

Turtleneck tops are generally beginner-friendly projects, especially if you need to overcome any fear of sewing stretch fabrics, as you don’t need to worry about an imperfect neckline showing. This video is a quick one and I’ll sew a basic top. And for all beginners out there, I include my favourite tips for sewing rib knit fabrics, one of my favourite cold-weather stretch fabrics. Please stay tuned for the next video that will cover various sleeve hem options that look good on stretch fabric garments: slits and thumbholes!

There are numerous turtleneck top patterns options out there that each have their own charm. After watching this video, browse to find your favourite and let’s get sewing together. Before we start cutting fabric, let me highlight a few things that you can do to help support the Sewing Therapy community. Simply click subscribe, like, and ring the notification bell. Every click is much appreciated. Let’s get started.

Before I go on, don’t forget to subscribe for the latest sewing tutorial video I make. Thank you.

Hello and welcome back to Sewing Therapy. McCall’s M7974 Very Adorable yet Elegant | Sew Along Tutorial from Sewing Therapy

Hello, Sara here with a new pattern and a new tutorial! Normally I stay away from fitted dresses but I had to make two after seeing what Katia of @sew_sewphisticated made. I decided to make my own versions of McCall’s m7974, and guess what, I love them more than I thought I would! There are four views in the pattern and I made View A with shirred sleeves and View D without the collar. You will sew along View A with me in this video.

I heard there can be difficult sizing issues with this dress so I recommend that you make a toile version before committing to the final version.

There are a couple of ways you can adjust the fit without cutting into the fabric. One is to attach the buttons closer to the inside of the dress and the other is to increase the seam allowance on the side seams of the Bodice before assembling it to the Skirt.

For both dresses, I tried to keep a strict 5/8” seam allowance and that worked well for me, although I want to add just one more button on top as the neckline is too wide for me when I sit or bend over.

Alright, make sure to sign up and do not miss out on upcoming events, tutorials, giveaways etc.
Let’s get started!

So, I strongly recommend watching the video if you have things that you couldn’t understand.

Sew Sleeve seams RST (Right Side Together)
Don’t sew over the stitches for your gathers
And serge
Fold Sleeve Binding in half and sew the short edges RST

Open the seam
Fold 3/8″ of one edge and press WST (Wrong Side Together)
Adjust gathers to match the width of Sleeve Binding
Slip the Sleeve into the Sleeve Binding and match the notches
Adjust gathers and sew with 3/8″ seam allowance
*Sewing on the side with gathers is easier to control

Fold the Sleeve Binding in half and wrap the seam

Topstitch/edgestitch covering the stitch line slightly

3. Assemble Bodice and Sleeve
Pin the Sleeve to armhole matching notches RST
Sew and serge
Repeat for the other Sleeve

Make gathers with your preferred method
Adjust the gathers to match the width to the waist

Slip the Bodice into the Skirt RST
Match and pin the side seams and centres of the Bodice and Skirt
And match the rest of the skirt by adjusting the gathers
Sew and serge
Double-fold the hem and edgestitch/topstitch

*Making Gathers
1. The most common method : use two parallel stitches
Using the longest stitch setting, sew 2 parallel lines on the edge
Leave tails of the thread for gathering
Distribute the gathers evenly

Tie off the thread when the sleeve hem reaches the desired width

2. New Found Method via @sewbakemake on Instagram : use any kind of cord/yarn and a zigzag stitch
Cut any kind of cord/yarn a bit longer than the circumference of the sleeve hem
Zigzag-stitch using the setting
Be careful not to sew on the yarn
Pull the cord/yarn to make gathers

Peppermint Everyday Dress | Sew Along Tutorial By Sewing Therapy

Hello! Sara here! Today’s tutorial is the Peppermint Everyday Dress! The pattern is free from Peppermint, a quarterly Aussie magazine that focuses on style, sustainability, and substance. Ethical fashion is one of their passions and they have a variety of free patterns available on their website (thank you Peppermint!).

The Everyday Dress is really for every kind of day – it’s reversible and customizable, and can look so different depending on the type of pattern you use. I experimented with the pattern by using not one but two different fabrics, one for the front and a different one for the back. I also share a simple and quick way to make the sleeves into a cuff band sleeve.

Before I go on, I would also like to introduce Zero Waste Gather Dress from Birgitta Helmersson
I’ve done the tutorial and I not only love the idea ‘ZERO WASTE’ but love the look of the dress as well.
http://sewingtherapy.net/zero-waste-gather-dress-sew-along-tutorial/

Although I always try my best to give you clear and easy to understand instruction, I strongly recommend you watch the video at least once to get the right idea. You can always come back and read the part that you forgot or wasn’t sure of.
