Baby Beginner Sewing Guide 01: Machine (The Very Basics that you MUST know) | Sewing Therapy

Hello, Sara here.
Thanks for the wait! Finally, the baby beginner sewing guide is here. When you start sewing, there are many things you need to learn. You might get overwhelmed if you try to learn and memorize everything before you start practicing your skills. So I will share my knowledge and let you know what I believe that you should know at the very beginning of your sewing journey. The first episode of the series is about the sewing machine.

While I recommend that you read your sewing machine manual, you don’t need to know everything about your machine to make simple projects. The 4 topics covered in this video (buttons and dials, how to use the straight and zigzag stitch settings, how to thread the needle, and how to wind the bobbin) are basic functions in every machine and are the base knowledge you need to get started. From there, you can keep building and expanding your skills with every project.

I strongly recommend watching the video. Especially as a beginner, I believe it’s better to follow through the video tutorial.
Alright, Let’s get started!

  • Buttons & Dials

  • Straight Stitch and Zigzag Stitch
Just try to remember the shape of the stitch button for straight stitch and zigzag stitch

Although it’s very basics, I can see you being confused. I just want to let you know, it’s not only you who get confused at the beginning. You will definitely need some time to know your sewing machine. You also should know it’s not going to be too long before you get used to it!

I really hope this beginner sewing guide can be a great help to everyone who is willing to learn how to sew. With the upcoming baby beginner tutorial episodes, I’m sure you will be able to learn the very basics of sewing. And what comes next? Practice, practice, practice, and practice. Don’t worry, you will have joy and happiness along your sewing journey! I will see you in the next post!
