Sewalong: Tie Dress No. 02 | View B: Button Front & Elasticized Ruffle Long Sleeve

Tie Dress No.2 View B is here. Hi everyone, and welcome back to Sewing Therapy! I’m Sara.

I hope you all enjoyed our first journey with the Wrap Front and short ruffle sleeve. Today, we’re shifting gears to explore a slightly different vibe for the Tie No. 2: the Button Front paired with the Elasticized Ruffle Long Sleeve.

What Makes This Version Special:

  • Refined Structure: While the Wrap Front is all about grace and simplicity, the Button Front adds a touch of structure. It gives the dress a more “finished” and refined look that works beautifully for professional or more formal settings.
  • Beginner-Friendly Buttonholes: Don’t let the buttons intimidate you! I’ve designed the construction to be incredibly straightforward. If this is your first time sewing buttonholes, don’t worry—I’ll be right here to walk you through every single step.
  • The Elegant Long Sleeve: This version features our long sleeve with an elasticized ruffle. It creates a gorgeous, airy, and voluminous silhouette.
  • Expand Your Wardrobe: A quick reminder that these sleeves are fully compatible with your other favorite Sewing Therapy patterns—including the original Tie No. 1, the Rectangle Top, and the Infit Top. The possibilities for mixing and matching are endless!
  • Perfect Your Length: If you’re aiming for a specific custom fit, remember that adjusting the height of the lower tier is the simplest and fastest way to achieve your ideal dress length.

Note on Construction: > The steps for constructing the optional pockets and the skirt are identical to the Wrap Front version. To keep things concise, please refer back to the [Tie No. 2: Video 1] for the step-by-step tutorial on those specific parts.

Now that you’ve seen all the versatile options for the Tie No. 2, I’m so curious to know—which combination is your favorite? Will you be sticking with the classic Tie No. 2 sleeves, or are you planning to “hack” it with a sleeve from one of my other patterns?

I truly love how this community fosters so much creativity and growth. Seeing your unique versions is what keeps me inspired! I think your 2026 is off to a wonderful start with this project, and I wish you nothing but joy in your sewing journey.

안녕! (Bye!)

Sewalong: Tie Dress No. 02 | View A: Wrap Front & Short Ruffle Sleeve

Tie Dress No. 02 has arrived! Welcome back to Sewing Therapy! It is such a joy to be here with you all as we kick off 2026.

I am absolutely thrilled to introduce the first pattern of the year: Tie No. 2. As many of you know, the original Tie pattern remains my most-loved design. For this second version, I wanted to take everything you love about the original and make it even more versatile, functional, and stylish.

Before we dive into the tutorial, let’s take a look at the thoughtful features included in this new pattern:

  • Two Front Styles: Choose between a classic Button Front or a graceful Wrap Front. Both openings are designed with a relaxed fit, making them nursing-friendly and comfortable, while remaining perfectly modest for professional or formal settings. Best of all, both versions are completely beginner-friendly!
  • Versatile Sleeves: We have two distinct options to suit the seasons. The Short Ruffle Sleeve is sweet, breezy, and perfect for warmer days. The Long Sleeve features an elegant elasticized ruffle for a voluminous, sophisticated silhouette.
  • Mix & Match: In the spirit of creativity, these sleeves are fully compatible with the original Tie No. 1, the Rectangle Top, and the Infit Top. You can mix and match your favorite elements to create a dress that is truly unique to you.
  • Signature Tie Detail: We couldn’t leave out our iconic ties! They can be styled in multiple ways to instantly transform the look and silhouette of your dress.
  • Customizable Lengths: The pattern offers Knee-length and Midi-length options. To keep things simple, the lower tier remains a consistent length for both versions. If you want to customize the overall fit, simply adjust the length of that lower tier to your preference.

Today, we are beginning this journey by sewing the Wrap Front with Short Ruffle Sleeves.

Whether you are a seasoned sewist or just starting out, I hope this pattern brings a sense of calm and creativity to your sewing room. If you have any questions throughout the process, please leave them in the comments below—I love hearing from this wonderful community.
